SARAJEVO, January 31 (FENA) - The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina has today issued a letter, as stated, to friends in BiH regarding the situation caused by the spread of coronavirus.
The letter recalls that the World Health Organization yesterday declared an epidemic caused by a new coronavirus as a matter of urgent public health issue of international importance.
"We understand your concern, but respectable medical experts have determined that there is no need to panic because this could cause even greater losses," the letter said.
The Embassy recalls that from the very first day of the Chinese New Year, Chinese President Xi Jinping has been chairing a meeting at which he gave comprehensive guidance, with the aim of strengthening epidemic prevention and control.
Just two days later, on the third day of the Chinese New Year, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang traveled to Wuhan to learn about the activities being undertaken in the prevention and control of this epidemic. Currently, China is mobilizing the entire country to fight the epidemic and has taken decisive, effective and scientific prevention and control measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
“We hope that you trust us. We have a system for the prevention and control of infectious diseases and extensive experience in dealing with public health issues we have gained in combating the SARS in 2003, as well as the scientific, technological and material bases we have accumulated over the past 70 years since the founding of the People's Republic China.
Chinese scientists have already discovered the genome of the new coronavirus. Medical experts from all over China are constantly working on the ground to prevent and control the epidemic, it is stated in the letter to the BiH public.
It is also emphasized that the City of Wuhan built a hospital within 10 days, solely to admit patients with the confirmed diagnosis.
“We can confidently say that no other country in the world has such capacity for implementation, nor can it take such strong prevention and control measures in such a short time. We hope you will remain carefree. Adhering to the principles of openness and transparency, as well as a very responsible attitude towards global health security, the Chinese institutions have timely informed the World Health Organization, the relevant countries and regions of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan of the information on the epidemic, providim them with the genome of the new coronavirus,” it is said in the letter.
Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the measures taken by the Chinese side not only protect Chinese nationals but also people around the world, expressing his sincere appreciation for this.
He emphasized that the high speed and scale of Chinese action is rarely seen in the world, and expressed sincere belief that China will successfully control and defeat the epidemic. The Chinese Embassy in Sarajevo also recalls a statement by BiH Ambassador to China Tariq Bukvić, who said that China has dealt with the problem very thoroughly and transparently, and that China has enormous resources and is implementing measures that rarely any other country is capable of doing.
The embassy also cites the words by a Bosnian sports professor and basketball coach Mirnas Avdić, who is in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, who stressed that there is no panic in China and that everything is under control.
“The authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina are actively taking appropriate measures. In this regard, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in BiH is willing to maintain communication and cooperate with the authorities in BiH. So far, no confirmed or suspected case of this epidemic has been reported in BiH. Chinese citizens residing and working in Bosnia and Herzegovina, currently in China, have voluntarily proposed self-isolation initiatives and measures for a period of 15 days upon their return to BiH. Although they are not from the city of Wuhan, they have voluntarily proposed the implementation of appropriate prevention and control measures to alleviate the concerns of friends in BiH. We hope that you will understand their best intention and spirit of sacrifice,” reads the letter from the Chinese Embassy to the BiH public.
Many friends in BiH have contacted the embassy these days to express their condolences, offer words of support and a willingness to help "which has touched us deeply".
“We will never forget the friendship of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Chinese people. On this occasion, we would like to share some good news with you. So far, 171 confirmed patients have been cured and left the hospital. We believe that with the help of the international community, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, China is fully capable of winning the fight against the epidemic, because, as the old saying goes, "After the rain comes the sun." Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for your expressed concern,” it is stated at the end of the letter from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to the friends in BiH.
