Brkić leads BiH delegation at conference on fight against crime

SARAJEVO, January 31 (FENA) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Josip Brkić, led the BiH delegation today at the Counter Criminality Awards conference in Naples.

The delegation also included representatives of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), the BiH Border Police and the Directorate for Coordination of the BiH Police Bodies.

The conference was organized as part of the IPA / 2017 / project "Combating Serious Crime in the Western Balkans", and partners in the implementation of the project are German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Italy and the Center for International Legal Cooperation from The Hague - CILIC.

The beneficiaries of the project are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia.

Deputy Minister Brkić held a bilateral meeting with Italian Deputy Minister of Interior Vito Crimi before the conference.

On this occasion, the interlocutors stressed the importance of continued cooperation and joint fight against crime, but also the need for further EU support for these activities.

The participants of the conference had the opportunity to exchange views and experiences of the Western Balkan countries with the Government of Italy, Interpol and Europol in the fight against organized crime and to look at the new challenges of security and police cooperation at regional and international level.

Deputy Brkić stressed Bosnia and Herzegovina's readiness to cooperate further with international actors and neighboring countries.

He also briefed on the steps our country has taken in the fight against organized crime, emphasizing its commitment to continue to work closely together and to strengthen the partnership of partners at local, national, regional and international levels.

Brkić stressed that the whole BiH and as an area of Southeast Europe are facing the same security challenges and welcomed the partnership of the European Union and the Western Balkans in addressing these issues.

He also stressed that BiH, as a country that wants to join the EU, is paying close attention to the rule of law and security, and that it remains committed to addressing the current challenges.

At the end of the conference, participants were presented with awards for their contribution to the fight against serious crime, PR Office of the BiH MoFA announced.
