SARAJEVO, February 6 (FENA) - Assistant Minister of Health of the Federation of BiH, Goran Čerkez said today that they expect to receive 500 coronavirus tests through the World Health Organization within the next week, perhaps even earlier.
In a statement to FENA, Čerkez stressed that the tests would be delivered to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS), as well as to the Clinical Center in Banja Luka.
“To date, we have had the competencies at KCUS to diagnose it through the analysis and exclusion of other viruses, in the molecular laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine through meta-genomic analysis, as well as sending it to one of the reference laboratories in Europe. In this way, we were given another, better option and a certainty (as far as the laboratory test is concerned) that we can easily confirm the presence of coronavirus,” said Čerkez.
He reiterated that there is no room for panic, but definitely there is room for caution.
“We are monitoring the situation and the citizens who have been in the territory of China in the last 15 days, and who are currently in-transit or residing in Bosnia and Herzegovina. From an epidemiological point of view, we are doing everything we can at the moment,” Čerkez emphasized.
He also added that they have good cooperation with the BiH Border Police, the FBiH Inspectorate and other services, especially the FBiH Institute of Public Health and the cantonal public health institutes.
