BANJA LUKA, February 10 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations at the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac today stressed the importance of preserving and protecting domestic agricultural production, announcing concrete measures after discussions with entity ministers, associations and other competent authorities.

He said that it is inexplicable that domestic producers are failing to sell their products on the BiH market, accounting only 30 percent of total demand.

"There has been positive attitude about protecting domestic production in the past," Košarac told reporters after speaking with the Association of Agricultural Producers of the Republika Srpska, announcing that concrete protection measures would be prepared.

He also points out that it is necessary to enable the marketing of domestic products on the markets of the EU, China and the Russian Federation.

“I am pleased that the RS Ministry of Agriculture has submitted a completed questionnaire for the export of red meat to EU countries and that tomorrow it will also submit it for China. I urge the Federation of BiH to do this together to enable people who produce red meat to be able to sell their products to these important markets,” he said.

He announced a working meeting with representatives of both Entity Agricultural Associations regarding the marking of livestock.

Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Staša Košarac previously visited the newly constructed customs terminals in Gradiška and stressed that the capacities of the Border Veterinary Service, which is part of the BiH Veterinary Office, should be strengthened in order to have the necessary elements like all modern border crossings in the EU.

“We will do as much as we can to make this border crossing even better,” Košarac added.
