SARAJEVO, February 11 (FENA) - BiH Defense Minister Sifet Podžić met today with Bulgarian Ambassador to BiH Avgustina Tzvetkova-Karabasheva and Bulgarian Military Attaché Brigadier Milko Chonov.
They discussed bilateral-defense co-operation between the two countries, as well as current activities in the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH (AFBiH).
Minister Podžić thanked Ambassador Tzvetkova for the friendly relations between the two countries, emphasizing that the support of the Republic of Bulgaria is very important for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Minister Podžić singled out the regular participation of AFBiH members in the exercises of the AF of Bulgaria as an observer of the activities carried out under the Bilateral Military Cooperation Plan, as well as the cooperation of STANAG 6001 teams, and the possibility of future joint participation in regional initiatives important for the peace and stability of the Western Balkans.
Minister Podžić also briefed Ambassador Tzvetkova on activities in the MoD and AFBiH regarding the more intensive implementation of the strategic document "Defense Review", which also includes the AFBiH Modernization Plan 2017-2027, and the obligations of the MoD and AFBiH stemming from the document "BiH Reform Program” which are at the top of the priorities of the MoD and AFBiH.
Ambassador Tzvetkova thanked for the warm welcome and excellent cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense, and announced the continuation of strong support on the path of BiH towards EU and NATO membership, emphasizing that the EU is not complete without the Western Balkans.
She commended the professionalism of the AFBiH members of the Peace Support Operations Training Center (PSOTC) in Butmir.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Podžić thanked Ambassador Tzvetkova for the participation of Bulgarian officers in the EUFOR forces, and expressed hope for continued good cooperation, PR Office of the BiH Ministry of Defense stated.
