Papandreou: BiH deserves better future in the EU and NATO

SARAJEVO, February 17 (FENA) - Defense Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić received today Ambassador of Greece to BiH Dimitrios Papandreou to discuss the two countries' defense cooperation, challenges and perspectives on BiH's EU and NATO integration path.

Podžić thanked Papandreou for the friendly relations and support provided by the Republic of Greece to BiH on its Euro-Atlantic path.

He emphasized the successful cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense, which has been ongoing since 2008, and which, according to the Bilateral Defense Cooperation Plan for 2020, envisages 17 activities, 11 of which in the Republic of Greece and six in BiH.

He also expressed content that the Republic of Greece has a resident military attaché in BiH, as well as cooperation between the two countries in other fields.

He highlighted the support of Greece in the program of education of members of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina (AFBiH) in schools and academies in that country and studying the Greek language of AF BiH members at the Kozara Barracks in Banja Luka.

Podžić briefed Papandreou on the current activities f the BiH Ministry of Defense regarding the BiH Reform Program, implementation of the 2016 Defense Review document, and the AF BiH Modernization Plan, which is closely related to the budget.

Papandreou thanked for the reception and friendly relations between the two countries. He expressed support for sending the BiH Reform Program to NATO, emphasizing that it was an important step towards Euro-Atlantic integration, and stressed that BiH deserves a better future in the EU and NATO.

The meeting was also a chance to discuss the participation of the AF BiH in peacekeeping missions around the world within EU, NATO and UN-led missions, and stated their commitment to improving defense cooperation, as well as the importance of supporting and exchanging experiences.

The meeting was also attended by Assistant Minister of Defense for International Cooperation Zoran Šajinović and Military Attaché of the Republic of Greece in BiH, Brigadier Michail Palaiologos, stated the BiH Ministry of Defense.
