BIHAĆ, February 25 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton (USC) Mustafa Ružnić after today's meeting of the Task Force on Migration Crisis Coordination and Monitoring stressed that this canton can accept and adequately accommodate a maximum of 1,000 migrants in two temporary reception centers. In this way, they responded to the request of BiH Minister of Security Fahrudin Radončić for a realistic assessment of the accommodation in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina during his visit to Bihać yesterday.

“There must be two centers and a maximum of 1,000 migrants in order to adequately control the humanitarian, health and safety aspects of this situation. We also offered the possibility of building a transit center in the canton, but outside the populated area. The capacity of the center would also be the same as in those two centers, where these people would be provided with temporary accommodation and health care before they continue their journey,” said Prime Minister Ružnić.

It was also presented that there are currently 3,415 migrants and refugees in the four reception centers in this canton, as well as a large number of them in abandoned buildings and on the streets.

“One of the conclusions of the Task Force is that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the security agencies must submit within a short period of time a plan to restrict the movement of users of services of all local centers. We are forced to do this because of the protection and control of the health situation, that is, the precautionary measures due to the coronavirus approach,” said USC Minister of the Interior Nermin Kljajić.

They also discussed at today's meeting the relocation of some 450 unaccompanied minors currently residing in temporary Bira reception centers in Bihać and Miral in Velika Kladuša.

“State Ministries of Security and Human Rights must adopt a plan and program for the care of unaccompanied minors. Currently, there are approximately 600 unaccompanied minors in BiH, and more than 500 are in our canton. We are requesting the relocation of about 450 minors from Bira and Miral, in order to provide them with adequate living conditions and protection of all their rights outside the USC area,” said Minister of Health, Labor and Social Policy Nermina Ćemalović.

The possibility of displacing a number of migrants staying in abandoned buildings and on the streets has also been announced, however, this depends on the accommodation capacity in the reception center in Blažuj. Also, the police of the Una-Sana Canton will work on activities to prevent the increasing occurrence of migrants who are on the streets begging.
