SARAJEVO, February 27 (FENA) – Retrograde policies that have become increasingly present in recent times will never be able to challenge the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has been preserved even in times when these policies were much stronger, BiH Presidency member Šefik Džeferović said today in his address to students of the Faculty of Political Sciences.

Speaking on the topic "BiH Independence Day - March 1 and the current situation in BiH", he emphasized that everything related to this important state holiday is "as clean as a whistle" and no one can dispute the decisions made just before the referendum, as well as the referendum itself which was organized in accordance with the Constitution, which later allowed the international recognition of BiH as an independent and sovereign state.

The importance of March 1 needs to be constantly talked about, Džaferović emphasized, pointing out that this is one of the most important dates in the history of BiH, because on this date BiH became free, internationally recognized and independent, which is why young people need to know about this date as much as possible.

“At this moment, this is very much needed especially in the situation when trying to jeopardize the sovereignty and integrity of BiH, and basic values of this country. That is why all of us in BiH should be in contact with people who have not experienced those times and explain what happened on February 29 and March 1, 1992 and what are the implications of that,” he explained.

He urged students never to forget that less than two-thirds of BiH citizens voted at the referendum, and almost everyone stated "YES" for an independent state. For Džaferović personally that referendum meant "YES" for freedom and a decisive "NO" to slavery.

He recalled the words of the first President of the BiH Presidency, Alija Izetbegović, during the signing of the peace agreement said "this is not just peace, but it is more just than continuing the war. In this situation, as it is, and in this world as it is, better peace could not be achieved".

Džaferović stressed that BiH was not created by the Dayton Peace Agreement and that supporters of retrograde policies claim it.

“Our goal is a complete BiH, and we will not stop fighting for that goal, and neither should you or anyone in this country. I do not know when the retrograde policy will end. I hope sooner rather than later, because everything else is just a waste of time,” said BiH Presidency member.
