BANJA LUKA, March 5 (FENA) - The first case of a person infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-2019) has been confirmed in the Republika Srpska (RS), which is also the first case of infection with the virus in the territory of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The first person infected with coronavirus in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the entity Republika Srpska (RS) is a Banja Luka resident who worked in Italy, and it was found that his child is positive for the virus, which is the second confirmed positive case, said today RS Minister of Health and Social Welfare Alen Šeranić.

It is a middle-aged person, a worker, who worked in Italy and returned from Italy late last month.

Minister Šeranić told at the news conference that the patient was isolated at the University Clinical Center (UKC) Banja Luka, and he is feeling well, as was his child, while his wife was tested negative for coronavirus.

“This is not unexpected. With the advent of the virus in Italy, it was increasingly difficult to control, given that the country is an important foreign trade partner for us,” said Šeranić.

He added that more cases of coronavirus could be expected.

Šeranić says UKC has the necessary equipment and staff when it comes to coronavirus.

So far in the entity of RS, 144 persons arriving from virus affected areas have been under health surveillance.
