Komšić extends congratulations on International Women's Day

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency Chairman Zeljko Komšić congratulated March 8, stating that International Women's Day is a symbol of the historic and progressive struggle of women for the social principle of gender equality as one of the important pillars of civil society.

At the same time, this day is also an opportunity to remember the tremendous contribution of women of Bosnia and Herzegovina in building our state, institutions and society in general.

The fact of low representation of women in leadership positions in BiH needs to change, not to formally respect the principle of gender equality, but because I deeply believe that the active role of women in every society makes that society better.

The issue of gender equality is not just a women's issue, which may be addressed by women's associations or individuals. It is equally important for the other gender to fully participate in an active commitment to the principles of gender equality in order to build a society of equality and equal rights for all, regardless of gender identity.

Only as equal citizens can we make society and the state in which we live better than it currently is.

I congratulate women in BiH and around the world March 8, wishing that you are always surrounded by your loved ones, with love and respect," Komšić wrote in his congratulations.
