Latest instructions from FBiH Ministry of Health Crisis Staff on coronavirus

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, March 9 (FENA) - The Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health, assessing the current epidemiological situation globally and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and taking into account the fact that the situation is changing daily in relation to the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), has issued a new order to the crisis staffs of the cantonal health ministries.

The Ministry calls for the cantonal crisis staffs to ban visits to hospitals, as well as social care institutions that provide care for children, young people and the elderly in any given canton.

The Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health recommends that no public meetings be held in the Federation of BiH and the cantons.

Older people are advised to avoid unnecessary movement and use of public transport. Also, it is recommended that older persons skip routine check-ups and visits to the doctor's office and hospitals unless they are in urgent need of medical intervention. It is recommended that you first contact your doctor via telephone if elderly persons are in need of a drug prescription or medical advice.

The cantonal crisis staffs are ordered to suspend regular specialist consultative examinations in the health institutions in the cantons, and the necessary specialist consultations need to be carried out according to the specialist's opinion.

These measures, or recommendations, are issued to protect the health of the most vulnerable population in the community, according to the available data to date, elderly and those with chronic illnesses, and avoiding events that would lead to an accelerated spread of infection, such as epidemics in healthcare facilities and larger public events, especially with international involvement.

The Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health calls on all citizens of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to take maximum responsibility for their own and the health of others, and to comply with all measures and recommendations issued by competent health institutions.

If residents have fever, coughing and shortness of breath, and have stayed in China, Italy, South Korea or Iran for the past 14 days, or have been in close contact with sick persons who have come from these areas in the last 14 days, please contact the cantonal public health institutes for further instructions.

The Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health underlines that no confirmed cases of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been registered in the Federation of BiH, and the competent health services monitor the situation and implement measures of increased epidemiological monitoring.
