SARAJEVO, March 9 (FENA) - BiH Presidency member Šefik Džaferović met with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Maureen Cormack today and said that the US fully supports BiH's sovereignty and territorial integrity, stability, the rule of law and enforcement of decisions of the Constitutional Court of BiH.
Džaferović talked with Cormak and US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson about the current political situation in BiH, notably the blockade of BiH institutions. He expressed the view that no blockages or blackmails are acceptable and that nothing can be achieved in this way.
BiH Presidency member urged that a clear message be sent that blockade is not the way to go for BiH and that constructive work should be undertaken in BiH institutions.
“First of all, we should start with the implementation of the reform programs that we adopted last year regarding our relationship with NATO, then we need to start working on the priorities of the European Commission Opinion,” said Džaferović.
He emphasized that there are two very serious global problems in BiH, illegal migration and coronavirus, and that these are precisely the issues that the authorities need to address.
In order to deal effectively with these issues, Džaferović added, one should participate in the work of institutions, adopt laws and decisions, and create a framework that will enable the best involvement of the state.
“This is not possible if we have a blockade of BiH institutions,” he said.
Speaking about the migrant crisis, Džaferović said that there should be a common position to make all BiH resources available according to priorities, in order to protect the state border of BiH and to distribute the burden of the migrant crisis equally across BiH. He expressed hope that everyone in BiH would understand, even those with the wrong approach, that it is in everyone's best interest to resolve this issue in the most efficient way possible.
“It is quite certain that the arrival of American diplomats such as Cormak can only improve relations,” Džaferović concluded.
