SARAJEVO, March 11 (FENA) - President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina Ranko Debevec said that the Court is doing good work, but that there is misunderstanding regarding the jurisdiction of the court and the prosecution.

He said this in his addressing to the members of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a thematic session discussing the situation in the BiH judiciary and the work of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) and the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

“As an illustration of good work of the courts, the Court of BiH is not the only court in BiH that does not have any decision of the Constitutional Court of BiH which would address the issue of contempt and non-compliance within a reasonable time,” emphasized Debevec.

Such a situation, he emphasized, shows that the Court of BiH is doing quite well, but that he cannot speak about individual decisions of judges, because this is not the jurisdiction of the President of the Court of BiH.

During the debate on the HJPC's annual reports for 2017 and 2018, the deputies had earlier adopted a conclusion calling for a special thematic session to be held, because it was pointed out at that time that there were numerous problems with the work of judicial institutions.

HJPC President Milan Tegeltija and Chief Prosecutor of the BiH Prosecutor's Office Gordana Tadić attend the session.

At the previous session, MPs adopted the Bill on termination of the mandate of the HJPC in its current convocation, proposed by the deputy of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), Dragan Mektić. That bill provides that the mandate of the HJPC, in the current convocation, will expire on 15 June 2020.

The proponent stated in the explanation that one of the reasons for proposing the bill was "restoring public confidence in the work of judicial office holders".
