SARAJEVO, March 11 (FENA) - Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Bosnia and Herzegovina Ivan Sabolić, presenting the program and priorities of Croatia's six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union, stated that his country would support every step forward of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the European path.

The planned May Summit in Zagreb Sabolić singled out as one of the possible opportunities in that context and for further strengthening of the dynamic on the European path of North Macedonia and Albania.

According to Sabolić, the issue of enlargement is a high priority, and Croatia, which presides over the Council of the EU for almost three months so far, has assessed positively the new methodology of pre-accession negotiations, which among other things highlights the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries.

Following his address, Mirsad Zaimović, Chairman of the Committee for European Integration of the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament, said that without a much more intensive involvement of Europe, Bosnia and Herzegovina as such, conditioned by the Dayton Peace Agreement, thus being the most complex country on European soil, could slide into even more serious problems than it has experienced so far in the process of the EU integration.

Croatian Ambassador also spoke about the challenges that, in addition to those planned, have been additionally imposed on his country's presidency of the Council of the EU - the migrant crisis and the spread of coronavirus. In relation to the first issue, he stated that the Croatian police have successfully operated on the ground and that the armed forces was ready to assist in the suppression of the migrant wave, but so far there was no need for its engagement.

Speaking about the danger of the spread of coronavirus as an increasingly global topic, Sabolić said in the context of Croatia's presidency of the EU, that joint work should be improved, noting that Croatia and the EU have sufficient resources to respond to the crisis. The measures will be adjusted, he added, on a day-to-day basis.

In addition to the session at which Ambassador of Croatia was a special guest, the FBiH Parliament Committee for European Integration also had another session today, attended by representatives of the Hungarian Parliament, which focused on the achievements of previous and current EU twinning projects.

Zoltán Horváth, head of the twinning project in BiH, also the head of the technical assistance team of the National Assembly of Hungary, presented a report, while Péter Sárdi, Secretary of State and Director of the External Relations Directorate of the Hungarian National Assembly, reported on the role and tasks of parliaments in raising public awareness on the topic of EU integration.
