SARAJEVO, March 18 (FENA) - Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina Vojin Mitrović spoke with Italian Ambassador Nicola Minasi in Sarajevo today.
The meeting, held at the initiative of Ambassador Minasi, was a chance to discuss the emergency measures the two countries are taking to mitigate the serious effects of the coronavirus pandemic on economic cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Italy, especially in the area of transport.
Expressing solidarity and full support for the friendly Italian people and the government of that country in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Minister Mitrović informed Ambassador Minasi that the BiH Council of Ministers altered the decision to ban foreign nationals from entering BiH and singled out from that decision truck driver and airline crews carrying goods and supplies necessary for the operation of enterprises.
"The economy must function, assistance must come, transport must not stop," Minister Mitrović said.
In this regard, Minister Mitrović emphasized that the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH also sent a proposal for a corridor to be used for transit, with specific locations, retention periods, and health control of drivers.
Mitrović also briefed Ambassador Minasi on the problems and barriers drivers face when re-entering and passing through Croatia and Slovenia. Ambassador Minasi vowed that the Italian government would side with the drivers and try to influence the solution of transport problems in the countries of the region that are members of the European Union.
Ambassador Minasi said the Italian Government is ready to share with the BiH authorities all experiences regarding the suppression of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the organization of quarantines at border crossings, stated the ministry.
