SARAJEVO, April 17 (FENA) - The Sarajevo Canton Interior Minister Ismir Jusko, at today's press conference referred to yesterday's two specific events in which police intervened.

The first is the arrest of a person suspected of extortion, who, when deprived of liberty, told police officers that he was positive for coronavirus, which was verified and confirmed and who thus, violated the measure of isolation.

The second incident Jusko referred to happened yesterday about three and a half hours after the first one, when a European Union Delegation employee positive for coronavirus escaped from the Podhrastovi hospital's isolation ward for Covid-19 patients.

Jusko said police located the person in a densely populated area of the city in less than 60 minutes and kept him under control until an ambulance arrived. The person tried once more to escape while briefly stopping the car he was driving, but the police officers reacted quickly and they had only basic protection - masks, gloves and visors.

Their colleagues from the accompanying vehicle could not act in the given situation that fast because they had protective suits on, Jusko explained.

He congratulated the police officers who did not think about their health in this instance, as much as about the infected person not transmitting the virus to other citizens in the Canton. He also said that some of the EU staff were with the police throughout the operation, for which he thanked them in particular.

At a press conference, Minister Jusko stated that he was professionally sorry, but also added that the police would act in the same way no matter who the person was if their actions endanger the health of others.

In relation to the situation with migrants in the Canton, Jusko said that about 400 of them have been housed in Blažuj,  but also that that capacity of the center should be expanded, which is not the responsibility of the police but of the IOM.

The Minister of Interior, in particular, called on the citizens of the Sarajevo Canton to abide by the rules and not behave in a risky manner in the coming weekend, because of the nice weather and announced that police would be issuing misdemeanor sanctions in case of violation of measures.
