SARAJEVO, May 6 (FENA) - The Republic of Italy has donated 200 respiratory masks for patients undergoing intensive care and they will be sent to hospitals in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is being delivered today at the FBiH Ministry of Health – FBiH Institute of Public Health.

FBiH Minister of Health Vjekoslav Mandić and Italian Ambassador to BiH Nicola Minasi stressed the importance of community, solidarity between people and the need for a united fight against Covid-19.

In that context, Mandić said, BiH's citizens and institutions have shown, through numerous activities, solidarity with Italy in the difficult times of the fight against coronavirus.

“In this kind of situation during the pandemic, innovation proved to be very important, as in the example of your company that developed an innovative mechanism that allows, through 3D printing of special connection valves, to transform the usual mask for devices that can be connected to oxygen tubes for treatment patients undergoing intensive care and which has proven to be very effective in hospitals in Italy,” said Minister Mandić.

He also expressed his gratitude to the company Dekatlon Italy, and to the Italian company SM3 from Tešanj, that transported this donation at their own expense, as well as to the engineering team that developed this system.

Ambassador Minasi said this was only part of Italy's assistance to BiH, and that these masks have become very famous in Italy.

"Diving masks have been adapted to assist patients in hospitals and one ventilator can be used for two patients," Minasi said.

He added that two Italian military doctors are coming to Sarajevo today to share their experiences in fighting coronavirus and to help all hospitals in BiH.

“It will be in collaboration with the United Nations, with whom we are currently organizing video conferences between doctors and experts in BiH and colleagues in Italy. We are stronger together and we hope it will be better soon,” Minasi said.
