Džaferović and Michel on the European perspective of BiH

SARAJEVO, May 6 (FENA) – Chairman of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović spoke today ahead of the EU-Western Balkans summit with President of the European Council, Charles Michel, on BiH's European perspective.

The President of the EU Council said that the EU is committed to strengthening ties with the Western Balkans region, and that this is one of the key priorities in his mandate.

He stressed that the EU remains committed to a solid European perspective for Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries in the region.

Chairman Džaferović briefed President Michel on the steps taken by the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina to accelerate the European path and meet the recommendations of the European Commission Opinion.

He expressed expectation that Bosnia and Herzegovina would get candidate status and start negotiations with the EU as soon as possible, the PR Office of the BiH Presidency announced.

BiH Presidency Chairman informed President Michel that BiH will join the EU Declaration at today's summit.

He informed EU Council President Michel about the situation in BiH regarding the coronavirus pandemic and thanked the EU for financial aid packages designed to overcome the health and economic crisis, as well as for BiH's inclusion in the EU public procurement system, emphasizing that this is the most significant support that our country received.
