Izetbegović - Lajčak: Support for the European initiative of the BiH Presidency

SARAJEVO, May 11 (FENA) - The EU Special Representative Miroslav Lajčak informed today in a telephone conversation, President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović about the tasks and activities within his new position as EU Special Representative for Dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as about the issues concerning the Western Balkans, and expressed optimism in resolving a number of issues which he intends to address in the future.

He stressed his commitment to stronger support for Bosnia and Herzegovina by the international community, especially after the easing of travel restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

The topic of conversation was also the situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the European path.

The interlocutors welcomed the messages from the recently held European Union - Western Balkans Summit, which confirmed the strong European perspective for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

Lajčak welcomed the new initiative of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the setup of ad hoc Working Group with the aim of accelerating the European path and more intensive implementation of 14 priorities of the European Commission.

They pointed out that gaining a candidate status would be a strong positive message when it comes to BiH's European path, the SDA said today.
