Dunović: Citizens of BiH deserve civil liberties on which the EU rests

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, May 24 (FENA) - Vice President of the Federation of BiH Milan Dunović addressed Head of the Delegation of the European Union and EU Special Representative to BiH Johann Sattler regarding an open letter from the President of the Federation of BiH Marinko Čavara.

In a letter to Sattler, Dunović referred to "a series of misstatements made by President Čavara, which pose a threat to building a democratic society and could disrupt Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path."

“The President of FBiH primarily put himself in the service of an imaginary protector of a constituent people, which directly violates the FBiH Constitution, and further stated that those same people are endangered, in a way that basic human rights are endangered for Croats,” Dunović wrote in the letter.

He added that he further elaborates this thesis by expressing the opinion that the so-called pro-Bosniak parties are overthrowing the constitutional order and trying to organize the state to suit the most populous people.

“I believe that you are aware of the factual situation in BiH, and that in the position you perform you will act responsibly and inform all EU officials about the situation in BiH. The European Union itself was founded and operates on the principles of the rule of law and the guarantor of human freedoms. It is incorrect that the rights of one people in Bosnia and Herzegovina are endangered, and it is also incorrect that the principle of constitutionality can guarantee the rights of anyone, especially all citizens, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation,” Dunović pointed out.

“I do not have to explain to you that the principles of a civil state are in complete contradiction with what President Čavara stated, and he uses a system of intimidation. Such untruths can mislead less informed persons outside BiH. Referring to, as Čavara states, open threats to the Croat people in BiH, due to holding of an anti-fascist rally on the day of the "Bleirbus Mass", is an attempt to satanize the anti-fascist achievements that the citizens of BiH are proud of. Also, in his letter, he ignores the fact that a huge number of Croats took part in the anti-fascist struggle,” Dunović states.

He added that this was a dangerous manipulation of history that inflicted immeasurable damage on all BiH citizens, and consciously targeted us as a state whose anti-fascist, democratic and civic ideas now need to be reconsidered by European officials.

“Dear Ambassador, I expect you to act actively in that sense, because the citizens of BiH deserve the civil liberties on which the EU itself rests, the citizens of BiH do not want to inherit fascist ideas, the citizens of BiH do not want to dominate each other depending on nationality or religion. The citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina want to live in a modern, prosperous, secure, economically viable Bosnia and Herzegovina that will be a full member of the European Union, respecting the values of the Union and not the medieval principles of politicians like Marinko Cavara,” Dunović said in a letter to Sattler, announced the Office of the Vice President of the Federation of BiH Milan Dunović.
