Different opinions on budget of BiH and postponement of local elections

SARAJEVO, May 26 (FENA) - Members of the Committee on Finance and Budget of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly today, after a session in Sarajevo, expressed different opinions on the adoption of the budget of BiH institutions and the justification for postponing the local elections.

Dušanka Majkić from the SNSD stated that the non-adoption of the budget of BiH institutions is not the only reason why the elections were postponed, because she believes that we also have "illegal members" of the Central Election Commission (CEC).

She pointed out that the budget must be an expression of the will of those who adopt it, and that there must be a consensus on such an important document.

“Previously, it was impossible for the CEC to appoint staff directly from the top leadership of a party who do not adhere to the Election Law. The eventual situation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to follow the Mostar practice would be a problem with unforeseeable consequences,” said Majkić.

Amir Fazlić from the SDA emphasized that the adoption of the budget of BiH institutions is a priority due to all the obligations that the country has, but also to end the dilemmas regarding the holding of elections.

“We in SDA believe that the budget should be adopted as soon as possible because there should be no dilemma about elections and other obligations. There are parties that obstruct the adoption of the budget, and declaratively advocate for holding elections,” said Fazlić.

He added that we should wait for the verdict of the Constitutional Court due to the postponement of the elections, although he believes that the CEC made all decisions according to the law.

Lidija Bradara from HDZ reminded that the budget of BiH institutions was prepared at the end of 2019 and that HDZ representatives were ready to support it in the Council of Ministers and the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.

She underlined that the CEC could postpone the elections by law, but that judicial institutions will give their judgment on that.
