GORAŽDE, June 7 (FENA) - A protest walk was held in Goražde on Saturday under the motto "Let's save the Drina River", in which citizens once again expressed dissatisfaction with the construction of a wall within the project of a fortification along the banks of the Drina River in the city center.

The protest march started symbolically at five until noon from the main square to Sinica Street in the settlement of Luka, where a concrete wall has already been built as part of the fortification project, which has completely disrupted the view of the Drina River.

Carrying banners "Let's save the Drina", "Berlin, Palestine, Goražde", "Head through the wall" and others, hundreds of citizens clearly said that they did not agree with the current way of building the fortification on the riverbank.

Citizens claim that a number of laws have been violated and remind that even the talks with the representatives of the city administration and investors have not yielded results.

"We are asking for a revision of the project, but they are continuing the construction, we talked again and again and nothing happens. We emphasize even today that no political parties are behind us as some try to present it,"  said a participant in the protest, Senka Dedović.

A significant number of citizens spontaneously gathered on May 23 in the settlement of Luka, when they clearly said "NO" to the construction of a concrete wall on the bank of the Drina River with a protest walk upstream towards the city center, symbolically forming a "living wall".

The project for the construction of the riverbank fortification in Goražde worth 10.5 million KM is financed with the World Bank loan. The works carried out downstream from the Bridge of the Genocide Victims in Srebrenica caused a series of mostly negative reactions from the public, first when the city picnic site was destroyed, and some citizens announced lawsuits due to land usurpation. The biggest revolt of the citizens was caused by the construction of a parapet wall on the right bank in the settlement of Luka, about two meters high, which completely obscured the view of the river Drina River.
