Landmines removed in a joint operation of EUFOR and FUCZ on Mount Treskavica

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 1 (FENA) - Anti-personnel landmines located on the Treskavica mountain not far from Sarajevo, at the Ćabenska stijena site, have been successfully removed and destroyed.

It was a joint operation by EUFOR and the FBiH Civil Protection Administration, the administration said.

The mines were previously spotted by mountaineers at the site of Ćabenska stijena, near the site of Omladinska staza, in an area that was previously marked as a suspicious one.

After that, a four-member team of the FBiH Civil Protection Service surveyed the terrain, located mines and destroyed them.

EUFOR transported the team by helicopter to the site and engaged another helicopter in case of a medical evacuation.

With this operation, the cooperation between the FBiH Civil Protection Administration and EUFOR was raised to a higher level in all aspects of the task, both flying and demining, so the operation was carried out very efficiently.

No security elements were violated, although it was carried out in extremely difficult terrain and it involved the identification of an unknown mine barrier and the destruction of mines.

The location where the mines were found is one of the most attractive trails on Mount Treskavica, but also very complicated and demanding in the event of an evacuation in case of a landmine accident, which is why it was necessary to remove these mines as soon as possible.
