SARAJEVO, July 8 (FENA) - The conference entitled "The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Srebrenica Genocide: Rape as a Means of Achieving the Goals of Genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina", the Islamic Community in BiH once again reminded of the special and systematic crimes committed against Muslims in BiH in the period from 1992 to 1995, which is a crime of rape.

Twenty-five years since the genocide, said Husein effendi Kavazović, Rais-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH in his address, we have an opportunity here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe and the world to remind ourselves that hatred, nationalism, and racism affect all of us equally, without exception.

“There are no immune societies and peoples to evil. The only question is how we treat that evil, whether we oppose it or encourage, glorify, and justify it. We live in the hope that peace and common universal values of love and solidarity among people will rule the world, that will not allow it to happen again,” said Kavazović.

The victims of the Srebrenica genocide, he stressed, are especially hurt by the fact that even after a quarter of a century, after the final verdicts of two international courts, hundreds of mass graves and thousands of testimonies of survivors, "we have not only individuals but also officials who, both in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, and unfortunately lately around the world, even institutionally, glorify people who deny genocide - such people, knowingly kill the victims for the second time."

“Victims do not ask for anything other than recognition of their suffering, they seek truth and justice, and without truth and justice, the world cannot survive. Therefore, when we remember the genocide in Srebrenica, we do so not only because we defend our own people, but because we want to protect humanity in this world, tell the truth about evil and give peace to the victims,” said Reis Kavazović.

Conference participants, eminent professors Admir Mulaosmanović, Muhamed Jusić, Hikmet Karčić, Mevludin Hasanović, Amra Delić, Lamija Tiro, Samid Šarenkapić, spoke about the scale and characteristics of genocide, genocide denial, planned crimes of rape and sexual abuse since the start of the aggression against BiH in 1992 until the end of 1995.

The intention of the conference, said the director of the Directorate for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community in BiH, Razim effendi Čolić, is to find a model that can help victims of sexual violence in conflicts in BiH and around the world.

An exhibition entitled "Genocide in Srebrenica: Eleven Lessons for the Future" by Hikmet Karčić, a researcher at the Institute for the Islamic Tradition of Bosniaks in Sarajevo, was opened as part of the conference in the hall of the Gazi Husrev-bey Library.
