Society for Threatened Peoples issued an appeal to Peace Implementation Council

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 10 (FENA) - The Society for Threatened Peoples (GfbV/STP), 25 years after the Srebrenica genocide, urges the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) in BiH to support the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina in imposing a law on punishing those who deny the Srebrenica genocide, stated this institution.

“We find it scandalous to deny, taboo, minimize the crimes committed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992-1995, even though the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia issued final judgments for them.

It is unacceptable that 25 years after the Srebrenica genocide, the UN member states under whose flag the genocide was committed are calmly watching the followers of convicted war criminals Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić who mock the victims by denying the crimes.

This is hard for those who are left to remember their loved ones, and they are mothers, sisters, daughters and relatives of the murdered who are still searching for the bones of their loved ones in mass graves, hoping that after finding at least one bone, they will finally be able to bury them.

That is why the imposition of the law on sanctioning the denial of the Srebrenica genocide is not only a civilizational but also a moral obligation of the countries in charge of implementing peace in BiH,” said Fadila Memišević and Belma Zulčić on behalf of the Society for Threatened Peoples in BiH.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the genocide committed in Srebrenica, the STP issued a document entitled "Srebrenica - 25 years after the genocide: Children and women once again are marginalized and traumatized."

The material contains appeals of the children of Srebrenica and Bosnia and Herzegovina born during the war, addressed to the UN Secretary-General, to finally take seriously the suffering of children in wars around the world.
