DF: Serbia clashes with the European Commission because of war criminal Đukić

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 19 (FENA) - The Cantonal Board of the Democratic Front of the Tuzla Canton fully supports the criticism of the European Commission towards Serbia through the recently published so-called Non-paper, i.e., semi-annual report on the current situation in Chapter 23 (Justice and Fundamental Rights) and Chapter 24 (Justice, Freedom and Security). Among other things, the document critically states that "Serbia does not pay enough attention to regional cooperation in the prosecution of war crimes," the political party said in a statement.

Thus, the European Commission reminds that Serbia has not yet recognized the verdict of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina in which the former general of the Army of Republika Srpska, Novak Đukić, was convicted for the crime at the Tuzlanska Kapija. Shortly after the verdict was pronounced, he fled to Serbia, where he is residing still under the pretext of medical treatment.

We remind you that this problem was also pointed out by the member of the Presidency of BiH, Željko Komšić, during his visit to Tuzla on May 25, 2020, on the anniversary of the commemoration of the horrific crime at Tuzlanska Kapija. He then emphasized that "Serbia cannot be a friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina as long as war criminal Novak Đukić is a free man. Today, Đukić walks freely in the neighboring country, which claims to be friendly towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and wants to build good neighborly relations," Komšić said.

"Serbia can hardly build good relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and other neighbors by providing shelter to war criminals. It is something difficult and painful, which always reminds us that there is a lot of hypocrisy in these relations today. Many will say that what I am saying is not fair, but I am tired of that false political correctness," concluded the then member of the Presidency of BiH, Željko Komšić.
