Fazlić: Situation with migrants has never been worse, radical measures to ensue

BIHAĆ, August 7 (FENA) - Members of the operational group for the situation with migrants in the Una-Sana Canton (USC) stated at today's meeting that the security and humanitarian situation in this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina is probably the most complicated since the migration process began.

Once again, they expressed dissatisfaction with the engagement of the competent state institutions, and with the cooperation with international organizations.

The situation has never been worse. We have a daily uncontrolled influx of migrants and several thousand people on the streets, in public areas and in abandoned buildings.

We are left all alone again in this situation. There are about a thousand people staying in the camp at the Lipa site, and we know that a significantly larger number of users can be accommodated at that location. Electricity and water have not been provided there yet, although we are fully ready to cooperate. We are facing a very strange behavior and atmosphere, we are being ignored,” said the mayor of Bihać Šuhret Fazlić.

The government of the Una-Sana Canton, the operational group, and the city administrations of Bihać and Velika Kladuša have announced future concrete action.

“We have waited long enough, now we are really ready for radical moves. Migrants have to be relocated from the city streets and we are absolutely not interested in anything else. I have said before that if we were forced, we will again form camps at new locations like the one in Vučjak. We are looking for a solution, that is, for these people to be relocated to adequate reception centers.

If there is no quick reaction from the authorities, we will again have to solve the problem ourselves, because we can no longer allow our citizens to live in fear and discomfort,” Fazlić added.

According to the Cantonal Police Administration, more than 7,000 illegal migrants are currently staying in Bihać, Cazin and Velika Kladuša, and about 4,000 of them are outside the reception centers.

All this has conditioned a drastic increase in incidental situations, i.e., misdemeanors and criminal acts related to the migrant population.
