SARAJEVO, August 10 (FENA) - The FBiH Assistant Minister of Health Goran Čerkez said today at a press conference in Sarajevo that the situation with the coronavirus pandemic can no longer be seen as just a crisis, but that we now live with the virus and must learn to protect ourselves and people around us.

After a meeting convened by the FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić with representatives of the cantons, chairpersons of both houses of the FBiH Parliament, and heads of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health, the police, inspection and civil protection administrations, Čerkez said that persons aged 22 to 45 are currently the most affected.

“The highest mortality rate is among patients who are older than 55, but we have more and more young citizens who are dying from this infection,” warned Čerkez.

He explained that it was agreed with the representatives of the cantons to monitor the implementation of the measures introduced by the Federation of BiH, but also to introduce additional ones if the epidemiological situation in their canton deems it as necessary.

He also added that they agreed to improve the delivery and updating of data on the infected persons, as well as cooperation in expanding the necessary capacities and engaging the manpower needed to fight COVID-19 pandemic.

Čerkez said that “we must be aware that this is a challenge that even the largest European health systems have failed to respond to adequately.”
