Head of IOM Mission to BiH visits Service for Foreigners' Affairs

SARAJEVO, August 18 (FENA) - Peter Van der Auweraert, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and IOM Coordinator for the Western Balkans, visited the Service for Foreigners' Affairs today.

Director of the Service and the Head of the IOM Mission discussed the current situation related to migration in BiH, as well as the continuation of cooperation in order to resolve the issue of increased influx of migrants. They pointed out that the most complicated situation is in the area of the Sarajevo Canton and the Una-Sana Canton, stated the Service for Foreigners' Affairs.

Peter Van der Auweraert said that conditions should be provided for migrants to be relocated from the streets to temporary reception centers, as the situation will be further complicated in the coming period.

The Service for Foreigners' Affairs emphasized the significant support from IOM, i.e. from the European Union through IPA funds in terms of resolving the migrant crisis.

The Director thanked the Head of the IOM Mission to BiH for the visit and stressed the need to further strengthen the capacity of relevant BiH institutions and agencies facing the challenge of increased influx of migrants, in order to successfully deal with the challenges of increased influx of migrants in BiH.
