SARAJEVO, August 25 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Staša Košarac met today with representatives of the largest shopping centers in BiH - Bingo, Konzum, Mercator, Tropik, Nameks and Robot.

They discussed the modalities of protection of domestic production in that context the role of large retail chains in the placement of domestic products, and the reduction of market surpluses, especially surpluses in the form of fresh and frozen meat.

After the meeting, Minister Košarac pointed out that he believes that domestic products are not adequately represented on the market and that in this regard, as in the adoption of appropriate regulations, continued communication with shopping centers is important.

"European practice has shown that there are different rules in the countries of the European Union (EU). The intention of producers in BiH is for more than 50 percent of products in shopping malls to be domestic products," said Košarac, recalling that he has already talked with meat processors in BiH and primary producers.

He assessed it as significant that today, when surpluses appear on the market, meat processors buy cattle from primary producers in Bosnia and Herzegovina and that their final products are on the shelves of shopping centers, all in order to address market surpluses in the best possible way.

Košarac pointed out the option of finding and entering new markets, emphasizing that in that direction, talks are underway on the possibilities of more extensive meat exports to EU countries.

He added that the issue of foreign trade with Turkey remains open, expressing the expectation that several agreements on the continuation of business cooperation in the field of meat exports will be signed this week, which, among other things, should reduce the surplus in the production.

"I am pleased with the commitment of the representatives of large retail chains to support the said initiative," noted Košarac, stating that he was also pleased with their readiness to additionally promote the goods produced in BiH in the coming days.

At the same time, he announced the possibility of banning the import of fresh and frozen meat in BiH, and that in the coming days with such an initiative, eventually, he would address to the Council of Ministers of BiH, if the measures do not work.

Vice President of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, Nemanja Vasić, emphasized the importance of a more intensive sales and promotion of domestic products so that the campaigns carried out by the commerce chambers under the motto "Buy domestic products" finally are utilized to the fullest.

He stated that all measures are in the function of resolving the current market surpluses, and in order to avoid resorting to restrictive measures, such as import bans, and that it is necessary to engage all the stakeholders - primary producers, slaughterhouses, processors and retail chains.

On behalf of the retail chain, the executive director of Bingo Tuzla, Edin Ibrahimović, expressed his support for the efforts of the ministry, reminding that this is a company dedicated to the support and development of domestic production.

"We gladly responded to this one and we will respond to all other initiatives aimed at strengthening the BiH economy," said Ibrahimović.
