Košarac: Our policy is preservation and protection of domestic production

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 1 (FENA) - Preservation and protection of domestic production is the official policy of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, with no agricultural branch having a privileged position, said Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Staša Košarac at a meeting with representatives of the Coordination of Poultry Associations in BiH, with whom he discussed problems in the production and trade of poultry meat.

The participants of the meeting concluded that domestic producers are allowed to export poultry meat and products and eggs for further processing to CEFTA and EU countries, and that in the coming period the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH in cooperation with relevant institutions of the entity of Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH are actively working to create conditions for the export of shell eggs. It was also pointed out that in the previous period there was no increase in imports of poultry meat compared to the situation before it, but that it is still greater than exports.

"It is obvious that, in addition to domestic producers of wine and red meat, poultry are also facing great problems and consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. We are completely determined to meet the needs of our producers and look for solutions that will mean recovery and continuation of business in this difficult period," said Minister Košarac.

He asked the Veterinary Office of BiH to adopt certain administrative measures, applying positive legal regulations, as well as to strengthen inspection supervision, having in mind the problem in the distribution of certain poultry meat products that are imported in BiH in the frozen state and are sold as fresh products.

"This is completely unacceptable from the aspect of protecting the health of our citizens. We will also inform the Agency for Market Surveillance in BiH, the BiH Agency for Food Safety, as well as the inspectorates in the Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH about this problem," the Minister underlined.
