Ljubić: Blocking changes to the Election Law leads to finding new solutions

FENA

MOSTAR, September 7 (FENA) - The parties of the Croat National Assembly (HNS) will participate in the local elections, including Mostar, although they continue to challenge the legality and legitimacy of the Central Election Commission (CEC), HNS BIH Main Council President, Božo Ljubić, said in Mostar on Monday.

He added that separation of the elections for the Mostar City Council from other local elections is still controversial for HNS.

HNS BiH Secretary-General Josip Merdžo commented on the upcoming local elections in Mostar, saying that for the first time in Mostar, "we have rules that do not discriminate against anyone".

Ljubić also referred to the events in Montenegro and the agreement on the normalization of economic relations between Serbia and Kosovo, signed three days ago, emphasizing that all these events are very much a reflection on internal developments in BiH.

“We can see that the events outside BiH, which are in no way directed against BiH, are actually used here for internal conflicts. We in BiH have an internal problem concerning our mutual relations here in BiH and we are not threatened by our neighbors, but we ourselves must solve our own issues so that we can finally move forward, in both European and Euro-Atlantic integration, and then in solving social issues,” said Ljubić.

When it comes to amendments to the BiH Election Law, Ljubić said the HNS would "come up with one coherent document" that would, in accordance with the Constitution, provide Croats with what Serbs and Bosniaks already have, and that is "legitimate political representation".

“In no way do we want to welcome the 2022 elections with the existing election rules, especially with this kind of CEC. Blocking or preventing changes to the election law, based on the Constitution and the decisions of the Constitutional Court, actually legitimizes the direct search for other concepts of national equality, and one of these concepts is certainly the concept of territorial autonomy,” said Ljubić.
