SIPA arrests Ratko Đurković, suspected of war crimes in the Ugljevik area

SARAJEVO, September 8 (FENA) - On the orders of the prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, the SIPA police officers in the Ugljevik area arrested Ratko Đurković, born in 1943, a former commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Majevica Brigade of the former RS Army (VRS).

An investigation is underway in the case of the Special Department for War Crimes against the suspects Ratko Đurković and Radomir Nedić, a former commander of the 1st Majevica Brigade.

They are charged with failing to take measures to prevent the murdering of civilians during the widespread and systematic attack on the Bosniak civilian population, knowing of the attack and taking part in the attacks, as the VRS commanders who had effective control over their units and prisoners, and did not take any action to prevent the murders of civilians and prisoners of war, nor prosecute and punish the perpetrators for the crime committed in the village of Tursunovo Brdo, Teočak, Ugljevik municipality in July 1992.

During the attack, military forces commanded by the suspects killed four Bosniak civilians, as well as two members of the Army of RBIH, who had previously been captured.

The suspects are charged as commanders, for the crimes of Crimes against Humanity and War Crimes against Prisoners of War.
