Arnaut: BiH CoM must ensure the study of the national group of subjects

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 10 (FENA) - The Our Party - Independent Bloc in the BiH Parliament has launched an initiative instructing the BiH Council of Ministers to ensure that a national group of subjects is taught to any child who wishes to do so, listing the language name in school documents according to official names of the languages in BiH provided in the Dayton Agreement and the elimination of all other forms of discrimination in schools in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

An MP in the BiH Parliament, Damir Arnaut reminds that BiH has undertaken numerous international obligations and that the discriminatory practices by the entity and cantonal bodies lead place Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state against international law and norms.

He reminds that Serb students in Glamoč cannot attend the national group of subjects and classes in the Serbian language, while Bosniak children in Kotor Varoš are still waiting for the execution of court verdicts to enable them to do their studies in the Bosnian language.

The Croatian language is also often neglected, and in some communities, the names of languages are not aligned with those referred to in the Dayton Agreement.

“Therefore, it is necessary to open this issue at the state level and insist that the Council of Ministers of BiH take an active role towards the entities and the cantons - which are responsible for education - with the aim of a systemic solution to this problem,” said Arnaut.

All citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, he said, deserve to be truly equal on every inch of the territory of our country, Our Party stated.
