SARAJEVO, September 24 (FENA) - Delivery of European Union equipment for medical needs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in response to COVID-19 took place today in Sarajevo.

The value of the equipment is about 900,000 euros and includes 40 ECG devices and more than 30 tons of protective medical and surgical equipment (masks, gloves, suits, footwear protection) that will be distributed to medical institutions throughout BiH.

This equipment is part of the European Union's medical assistance to BiH in the fight against the pandemic, worth a total of seven million euros, which has been delivered across the country since March 2020.

The medical equipment was handed over by the Head of the EU Delegation and the EU Special Representative in BiH, Ambassador Johann Sattler, in the presence of the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Zoran Tegeltija.

On that occasion, Ambassador Sattler said that a true friend is known in trouble, and that this is another confirmation of the support provided by the 27 member states together with the European Commission.

- Today, we have once again shown that solidarity is not just a mere phrase, but that help is something that needs to be continuously insured and we are insuring and working on it every week - stated Ambassador Sattler.

He noted that it is more than 30 tons of protective equipment, about 40 ECG devices, assistance that is provided for the entire country. Distribution of this assistance will go to all parts of BiH.

- Hence the importance of adequate stock preparation. It is important that we have enough supplies, enough protective equipment, so that hospitals in all parts of the country, from Prijedor, Bijeljina, Banja Luka, Mostar, Sarajevo and other cities, can function smoothly - said Ambassador Sattler.

He said that the value of today's aid is almost 900 thousand euros, which was provided from the funds allocated for the purchase of medical equipment, which the EU provided and will continue to provide at this time of the pandemic. That is the first part of the assistance.

He added that the second part of the assistance concerns support to the economy, specifically small and medium enterprises, especially those in the branches of transport and tourism.

The third form of assistance is macro-financial support worth more than 250 million euros, "which, unfortunately, has not yet been finalized".

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Zoran Tegeltija, said that this equipment will start to be delivered to health workers throughout BiH tomorrow.

He thanked the European Union, the European Commission and personally Ambassador Johann Sattler for their efforts to help Bosnia and Herzegovina in this difficult time of fighting the pandemic, „for helping us to get to, through a complex procurement system, this kind of protective equipment.“

He pointed out that the European Commission is, without a doubt, the largest single donor to Bosnia and Herzegovina and "hardly any other aid can be compared with the amount of aid provided by the European Commission so far."
