SARAJEVO, September 30 (FENA) - The problem with neighbors, Serbia, regarding the long-term appropriation, stealing of electricity from hydroelectric power plants on the Drina River, HPP "Zvornik" and HPP "Bajina Bašta", has been going on since the beginning of these hydropower plants, Head of the Democratic Front Caucus in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Dženan Djonlagić stated.
The usurpation of hydro potential, he added, is also present from Buško Lake for HPP "Orlovac" in Croatia, and HPP "Trebinje" and HPP "Dubrovnik 1", as an indisputable right of Bosnia and Herzegovina to its share.
Djonlagić believes that this is not the same as the issue of determining the interstate border on the river Drina or succession, the inheritance of the property of the SFRY, but the continuous appropriation of our rights to the produced energy. Electricity theft, he underlined, is still on the scene today.
“Based on the hydro potential, the share of Bosnia and Herzegovina from HPP "Zvornik" is 49.8 percent, and from HPP "Bajina Bašta" 67 percent. On the other hand, 50 percent from HPP "Orlovac" since 1974 and the appropriation of the complete unit in HPP "Dubrovnik" since 1994,” he claims.
Djonlagić said that by the end of 2018, Serbia's debt for the appropriated BiH electricity, from the two hydropower plants is about 4.8 billion euros gross (74,000 GWh) and that is about 88 million euros per year.
The total debt of Croatia, said Đonlagić, with 2018, amounts to 1.16 billion EUR gross.
"In total, the electricity that is being stolen from us by two neighboring countries corresponds to the consumption of electricity in the whole of Bosnia and Herzegovina in seven years. Serbia and Croatia avoid this topic, because they are aware of their obligations towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to international standards for border rivers and hydro potential," said Djonlagić.
