The lack of specialist examinations is the biggest problem of women in Konjic

FENA Hana Imamović

KONJIC, October 1 (FENA) - One of the biggest problems of women in the municipality of Konjic is the lack of specialist health examinations, but there are also issues of employment, as well as an adequate response to domestic violence.

This was pointed out at a workshop organized by the CURE Foundation, the Foundation for Women's Empowerment and Association of Citizens "Woman for Woman", where they worked on activities in creating the Action Plan - Women's Needs Agenda, a document that will be presented to local authorities for adoption.

The workshop was organized within the project "Women's Rights - Agenda for Positive Change" which aims to promote and protect women's rights and eradicate discrimination against women with a special focus on women and girls belonging to marginalized and minority groups in ten municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Members of the Association of Citizens "Woman for Woman", representatives of local institutions such as the municipality, health, social work center, employment bureaus and representatives of non-governmental organizations attended the workshop.

As Denija Hidić from the CURE Foundation told FENA, the workshop discussed mechanisms for gender equality in Konjic, but also how to jointly improve gender equality policies while defining specific solutions and areas of action.

Speaking about the problems important for this municipality, she singled out the health system where there is a lack of preventive specialist examinations, especially in the context of reproductive health, and the lack of endocrinologists and diabetologists.

As another problem, she singled out the issue of domestic violence, where the focus is on education.

The most serious problem of women in Konjic is unemployment because there are currently 3,987 people on the records of the Employment Bureau, of which 2,135 are women, and the coronavirus pandemic has had an even more negative impact on the employment of women.

The workshop also discussed the need for women to be more involved in public and political life, because the Municipal Council currently has four female councilors.

The European Union is funding the project "Women's Rights - An Agenda for Positive Change" implemented by the CURE Foundation (CURE) and Foundation for Women’s Empowerment (FWE).
