SARAJEVO, October 1 (FENA) - The History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the host and organizer of the prestigious World Press Photo exhibition, which is open for visitors at the museum's plateau from October 1 to 21.

The exhibition presents the most successful photos of the winners of the World Press Photo competition in the field of photojournalism for this year.

"The History Museum of BiH has the exceptional honor and pleasure to organize and host the most prestigious world competition in professional photography, together with 50 countries and 120 other cities where this exhibition was hosted during this year," said Elma Hašimbegović, director of the History Museum of BiH at a press conference on the occasion of the opening of the exhibition.

More than 4,000 photographers applied this year for the best photo competition, and only a few were selected in different categories, individual photos and photo stories.

"The idea of the World Press Photo competition is, in fact, to record the history of that year, for photographers as chroniclers of world history to go to different corners of the planet and record what is happening in the world," said Hašimbegović.

"The photos show us what marked world history in the past year. From various conflicts, demonstrations, advocacy for nature protection, environmental activism, which are very important topics in this competition, we can see everything in these photos exhibited at the plateau of the History Museum of BiH," noted Hašimbegović.

The Sarajevo exhibition is being realized with the help of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Reinout Vos, pointed out at today's press conference that Sarajevo is a city of hidden gems and one of those gems is certainly the building of the BiH History Museum.

"The museum is run by a group of people who still succeed, with almost non-existent funds, to do an impressive job. I am very happy that we can hold the World Press Photo 2020 exhibition right here.

Elma and her team managed to set up the exhibition at the plateau in such a way that it is accessible to visitors, but it also fits perfectly into the ambiance next to the museum building. I want to underline how important it is that we can present the World Press Photo exhibition now at this time of health crisis," said Ambassador Vos.

In the times we live in, photos represent much more than just photography. The way in which many political debates are conducted today is such that it is difficult to distinguish what are the real facts, and what is fabricated, that is, what is fake news. At this time, we are not able to travel due to the coronavirus pandemic, but luckily this exhibition can come to us," said Ambassador Vos.

The exhibition will be open for the next three weeks and admission is free of charge.
