Lučić: Establishing a gender-equal society has no alternative

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 2 (FENA) - Minister of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina Miloš Lučić participated in the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, which was held on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women.

At the meeting, which was held in a virtual format, the heads of state and government, ministers and heads of delegations of more than 150 UN member states, through recorded video statements, referred to the experiences in implementing the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action along with the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women - CEDAW, are key international documents in the field of promoting gender equality.

In his presentation, Minister Lučić pointed out, among other things, that in the past 25 years since the Fourth World Conference on Women took place in Beijing, the socio-economic and political context for the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been extremely complex, but at the same time, we were aware that the establishment of a gender-equal society has no alternative, and that visible progress has been made in this area.

He emphasized that "the socio-economic transition, as well as the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, are invariably affecting women more, and intergenerational equality and solidarity must be strengthened."

He concluded that "fighting these problems is our ongoing commitment, just as today, on its 25th anniversary, the Beijing Declaration remains our source of inspiration and a guide to a society of greater equality," the BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees stated.
