Support for holding local elections in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 2 (FENA) - Representatives of the Office of the FBiH Prime Minister and a delegation of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bosnia and Herzegovina met today at the headquarters of the FBiH Government to discuss the implementation of the 2020 Local Elections.

On behalf of the Office of the FBiH Prime Minister, the meeting was attended by Director Sead Lisak and Acting Director of the FBiH Civil Protection Administration Mustafa Kadribegović, and on behalf of the CEC delegation, President Željko Bakalar and CEC member Suad Arnautović.

Bakalar informed them about the CEC's request to provide the protective material and technical resources needed to conduct this year's elections. He expressed his concern with the reaction and content of the responses of local communities to conduct elections in our country.

Namely, given the current epidemiological situation, it is certain that the elections will be held during the epidemic, and 27 municipalities or cities from the Federation of BiH gave a positive answer, while 12 of them declared the impossibility of providing material and technical means to protect and prevent the spread of coronavirus, and 40 of them have not yet submitted their response.

The meeting, initiated by the Office of the Prime Minister, emphasized the strong support of the FBiH Government to the work of the Central Election Commission of BiH, as well as the implementation of the Local Elections 2020, which will be held on November 15 and on December 20 in Mostar, announced the press service of the FBiH Government.
