ZDC and OSCE sign Memorandum of Cooperation on curricular reform

ZENICA, October 6 (FENA) - Head of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina Kathleen Kavalec and Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton (ZDC) Spahija Kozlić signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the implementation of the project "Quality Education through Curricular Reform".

The project includes the support of the OSCE Mission to BiH to this Ministry in terms of improving the quality and inclusiveness of education through the development of subject curricula for primary and secondary education based on learning outcomes, in accordance with the document Common core curriculum defined on learning outcomes in BiH, which was adopted by the Agency for Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education in BiH.

He added that the "guide" will be the PISA results, which were not good, so in the next phase, attempts will be made to improve the curricula of primary and secondary schools so that the quality of education in BiH would be far better.

The OSCE Mission provided expert, technical, logistical and administrative support.

The project is financially supported by funds from the budget of Zenica Doboj Canton, and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports will select the leaders and members of the subject working groups for the development of the subject curricula through a public call.

Ambassador Kavalec said that the memorandum formalized the OSCE's support for curricular reform, which would not have been possible without the readiness of local authorities, and expressed special gratitude to the governments of Norway and Italy for their support and financial resources. She also thanked and commended the educational authorities, institutions and teachers in this canton for their involvement in organizing the teaching process during the coronavirus pandemic, adding that their quick and decisive response, but also that the commitment to improve education through comprehensive curriculum development testifies to provide quality education to all children in this canton.

ZDC Prime Minister Mirza Ganić thanked OSCE for supporting numerous projects implemented in ZDC, and the Norwegian and Italian embassies for the allocated funds, confirming the commitment of the cantonal government to provide full support to curricular reform, the ZDC Press Service announced.
