SARAJEVO, October 9 (FENA) - After several months of extensive investigation, conducted in accordance with the State Strategy for the Fight against Organized Crime and Corruption and the State Strategy for the Prevention and Abuse of Narcotic Drugs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH has been cooperating with partner police and security institutions in BiH, as well as cooperation with partner institutions from the countries of the region and the EU, and has successfully completed the investigation and filed the most comprehensive indictment in the field of narcotics crime in the post-Dayton BiH, the Prosecutor's Office said today.

A total of seven defendants are charged with international smuggling of about 6.8 tons of the narcotic drug "skunk" marijuana from Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and further to EU countries, and the realized illegal property gain is estimated at at least two million euros.

They are charged that from 2016 to 2019, as an organized criminal group, in agreement with other persons, on at least 25 occasions, they organized, planned and realized the smuggling of "skunk "marijuana, usually in quantities of about 200 kilograms, and in some cases in quantities reaching 600 or 900 kilograms. The drugs were smuggled from the territory of Montenegro to Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they were stored or immediately smuggled further to the Republic of Croatia and EU countries.

Through the operational activities of the police authorities, and in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office, law enforcement agencies managed to detect, intercept and prevent the smuggling of at least two tons of narcotics in BiH, on the territories of East Sarajevo, Neum and Gradiška, as well as certain quantities of narcotics in the Republic of Croatia.

During the searches and arrests, money in the amount of about half a million KM was confiscated from the suspects, as well as a certain amount of counterfeit banknotes.

The accused hired tank trucks of transport companies engaged in the trade of petroleum products or other goods to carry out smuggling, in order to try to cover up the smuggling of large quantities of narcotics.

The Prosecutor's Office will prove the allegations of the prosecution by summoning about 20 witnesses and experts, of whom a number of witnesses have been granted a procedural measure of protection, and several hundred pieces of evidence, the Prosecutor's Office of BiH announced.
