SARAJEVO / BRUSSELS, October 9 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović and BiH Presidency members Milorad Dodik and Željko Komšić met today during a working visit to Brussels with the European Parliament's Permanent Rapporteur for BiH Paulo Rangel and President of the European Council Charles Michel.

“We have achieved what we wanted, and that is to encourage the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to accelerate it,” Chairman Džaferović told reporters in Brussels.

He added that the most important item from today's meeting is that the relation between the institutions of the European Union and BiH will be continuous.

“It is up to us in BiH to fulfill all obligations regarding the 14 key priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission, but we will have strong support from the institutions of the European Union,” stated Džaferović.

BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik told reporters that they "made it clear that migrants come to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the European Union, through Greece and Bulgaria, and represent not only a social but an increasing security problem that needs to be addressed."

“We are familiar with the fact that the European Commission is initiating a new dialogue on the issue of European migration and that it will include integral issues related to the Western Balkans,” stated Dodik.

He says that his impression is that "all the issues that are observed from here to any country in the Western Balkans are regional and that it is viewed as a whole region, with the specifics of the countries that are there."

Speaking about whether the money promised by the EU can be an incentive for BiH politicians, BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić said that "if we come to the conclusion that the money promised by the European Union is our motive to make our country better and to build it, then it's not good. "

“That money should be a motive in terms of help, but if it will only make us do something with money, then there is nothing to it, then we did not deserve to be in these places where we are. I guess we should want to make our own country,” stated Komšić.

He added that it is true that the European Union will condition the assistance it provides with certain progress in the countries of the region, but "we need that progress, not to prove to Europeans that we can do something, but we need it because of our country."

“We need new infrastructure, especially traffic infrastructure. I mean road and rail traffic, we need help in digitizing society. So there are a lot of things where we need help that doesn’t have to be just material. It can be professional, it can be experiential. So, we have the biggest obligation and the biggest burden to do that, and the European Union will help us, my impression is, even beyond this promised amount,” said Komšić.
