'Challenges We Overcame' motto of the International Day of Rural Women

SARAJEVO, October 12 (FENA) - On the occasion of this year's International Day of Rural Women, marked on October 15, the FARMA II project will support the sales and promotion of 20 women-led producer organizations and hold an online panel discussion under the motto "Challenges We Overcame!"

Over the last five years, the Sweden/USAID FARMA II project has been supporting and promoting the empowerment of women and their active participation in agriculture. Since its inception in 2016, the project has provided technical assistance to 1,439 women and has supported the work of 437 women-led producer organizations.

Starting today, until Sunday, October 18, the project will support the sales and promotion of 20 women-led producer organizations at the Lucky Market Street Fair in front of the SCC Shopping Mall in Sarajevo. On Thursday, October 15, the FARMA II project will hold an online panel discussion, dubbed “Challenges We Overcame!” The discussion will feature seven prominent women who who are either running successful businesses or have significantly contributed to the economic empowerment of women in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We have to fight for ourselves and work hard on ensuring our financial and economic independence,” said Aida Zubčević, owner of Faveda Ltd, a company from Sarajevo that produces dietary supplements and natural cosmetics based on medicinal herbs.

Ms. Zubčević who is the President of the Association of Business Women in BiH and a member of the International Network of Women Entrepreneurs added that there is a lot that women can do for women in terms of economic empowerment, and we have to work on two tracks; establishing and running our own businesses, and advocating for equal rights of women and men in the business sector and the inheritance rights and registration of property.

Ms. Zubčević will take part in the panel discussion, on October 15, along with Ms. Ljiljana Čičković, Director of Women’s Center Foundation from Trebinje, Ms. Jasmina Ćušić, owner of fruit and vegetables production company Eko Jasmina from Mostar, Ms. Suada Mujkić, President of the Women’s Association Ruka from Tešanj, and Jelena Mićić, Head of the Sokolac Regional Office of the Agricultural Advisory Services Sector of the RS Ministry of Agriculture.

Stories of Ms. Indira Omeragić, Director of Milk Industry 99 from Gradačac, and Amina Muharemagić, Director of BeeMed from Tuzla, will be presented through videos.

The Lucky Market is organized by two women. Since 2010, they held more than 200 street fairs throughout BiH, and 90 percent of exhibitors at those fairs were women, representing their businesses.

This week’s Lucky Market in front of the SCC Shopping Mall includes a total of 50 exhibitors, of whom 44 are women-led businesses. The FARMA II supported exhibitors include: Bio-Halilović (teas, natural cosmetics, and flour); EcoMedico (honey-based products); Organlook (natural cosmetics); Greens (herbs and micro vegetables); Alma Derm (natural cosmetics); Goat Farm Alpino (cheese and natural cosmetics); and the Association BH Treasures with multiple producers and products, announced the Sweden/USAID FARMA II Project.
