BiH on the list of countries of 'Stop African swine fever' campaign

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 13 (FENA) - The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has launched a campaign called "Stop African Swine Fever" to raise awareness and help halt the spread of African swine fever in Southeast Europe.

The campaign is aimed at countries that EFSA identified as a collectively comprising a "region of concern" last year as they are close to countries where African swine fever (ASF) is present. These are Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.

EFSA stated that their campaign is part of the activities currently being undertaken by the European Commission and other international organizations to work towards the eradication of the disease in Europe, the Zenica Institute for Health and Food Safety said.

There are currently no vaccines for ASF, so an outbreak can necessitate the slaughter of large numbers of farm-kept pigs in affected areas.
