SARAJEVO, October 20 (FENA) - The HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović met today in Sarajevo with the US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson to discuss local elections, political circumstances, Euro-Atlantic integration and the economic situation.
The meeting was also attended by the Deputy President of the HDZ BiH Borjana Krišto and the Deputy Ambassador of the USA to BiH Ellen Germain, said the HDZ BiH on Tuesday.
Speaking about the political situation, Čović stressed the need to implement the agreement on amendments to the BiH Election Law, saying that the achieved consensus should not be ignored. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of local elections for building a strong democracy and the path to the EU.
"Local elections must reflect the independent political affiliation of all constituent peoples," Čović said, stressing "the importance of the legitimacy of political representatives at all levels of government."
He also emphasized the position of Croat officials on the separation of the City of Mostar from the election process.
The assistance provided by the United States to BiH in overcoming the consequences of Covid-19 was also highlighted, the statement said.
