SARAJEVO, October 21 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić and his associates received Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran Gholamreza Alimohammad Ghelichkhan and other representatives of the Embassy of that country in BiH in an inaugural visit.
Minister Podžić welcomed Ambassador Ghelichkhan and wished him a successful diplomatic mission in BiH and expressed hope for the continuation of cooperation between the two friendly countries.
During the conversation, the Ambassador and his team were briefed on the most important activities carried out by the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH, and Minister Podžić emphasized the contribution of the Armed Forces of BiH in peace support operations, humanitarian demining, surplus weapons and ammunition, assistance to civilian structures in cases of natural and other disasters and accidents, as well as engagement in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Also, the guests were informed about the two main foreign policy goals of BiH, regarding full membership in the European Union and activities on the way to approaching NATO with the ultimate goal of including our country in this military-political organization, the BiH Ministry of Defense announced.
Ambassador Ghelichkhan expressed the expectation that the cooperation between the two countries will continue and pointed out the fact that regardless of geographical distance and certain conceptual differences, the Islamic Republic of Iran wants to continue good relations with our country and help all its peoples and citizens.
Ambassador of Iran said that it is necessary to leave what happened in the past to history and continue to develop good relations within the country and turn to economic development and progress for the benefit of all who live here.
Finally, Ambassador Ghelichkhan and Minister Podžić stated that cooperation in the field of defense between the two countries has not been established so far, but that there are other areas where cooperation can be further developed and improved in the future, the Press Service of the Ministry of Defense stated.
