SARAJEVO, October 22 (FENA) - Strategies for young people have been adopted in 29 local communities in the Federation of BiH and the entity of Republika Srpska, while the Brčko District is in the process of drafting its first youth strategy.
This data shows that local authorities are still not ready to primarily analyze the position of young people in their municipalities/ cities and to adopt an institutional document with defined problems and needs of young people, but also a number of activities that, if implemented, should contribute to solving these problems, underlined Asja Dizdarević, President of the Youth Council of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
She also stated that young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina have been left to fend for themselves for years.
Although youth strategies are a legal obligation of all levels of government in our country, the representatives of the umbrella bodies for youth in BiH remind that local strategies are especially important.
"Local strategies address issues that have an impact on the lives of every young person in BiH. These are issues such as formal and non-formal education, employment, health and preventive care, the reproductive and mental health of young people.
Also, the social position of young people, the active participation of this population in public life, mobility, information, and counseling with young people, are very important areas. In addition, youth strategies must be tailored to the needs of each individual local community," point out the umbrella organizations for youth in BiH.
