SARAJEVO, October 26 (FENA) - The Sarajevo City Hall this evening was illuminated in the colors of the Austrian flag, honoring the marking of the National Day of that country in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Austrian Ambassador to BiH Ulrike Hartmann invited the people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, all friends of Austria, to celebrate the country's national holiday together on October 26.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no traditional reception organized every year by the Austrian Embassy in BiH, but instead, a number of protocol, cultural and culinary events are taking place in an online format.
Ambassador Hartmann had her welcoming address via video link, reminding us that we all share the conditions of restrictions that have been introduced this year to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Ambassador Hartmann pointed out three important anniversaries for Austria, 65 years since the signing of the Austrian State Treaty, which guaranteed Austria's full independence. Neutral Austria has since been an active member of the community of states based on European values.
This year also marks twenty-five years of Austria's membership in the European Union, which has brought all people in Europe closer to each other but also ensured economic prosperity, and the 100th anniversary of the Austrian Federal Constitution and the Austrian Constitutional Court, which form the basis of the rule of law and separation of powers in Austria.
"This year we are also marking the hundredth anniversary of the existence of the Austrian Federal Constitution and the Austrian Constitutional Court. Thanks to that legal framework, Austria can speak of a long tradition of the rule of law and democracy, with the exception of the period from 1933 to 1945," said the ambassador.
The ambassador mentioned that Austria strongly supports the enlargement of the European Union and has always been ready to help friends, and with the enlargement, it also wants to strengthen the EU.
