Berber's 'Srebrenica' is a reverence for the victims and eternal work

SARAJEVO, October 27 (FENA) - Mersad Berber's monographic exhibition "Srebrenica" had its world premiere last night at the BiH Art Gallery, where more than 40 paintings representing stories of genocide will be exhibited until November 25.

The idea for the organization of the exhibition came from the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferović, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of genocide in Srebrenica.

He pointed out to the audience that this is a large exhibition, perhaps the most important one that Berber left behind and worked on for the rest of his life.

“His message is clear - with this exhibition Mersad Berber, like Bašeskija, leaves behind a chronicle of time when BiH painters shared the fate and suffering of Bosnia and Herzegovina, too often torn from their homeland, from the people and the country that was the only home for them. But also a clear message that evil should be stopped, that pain and misery should stop in our Bosnia. There were enough of them in the century behind us - to never again defend freedom and hearths with our bare lives - for Srebrenica to never happen again to anyone. In that name, I am opening tonight's exhibition,” said Džaferović.

Berber's son Ensar expressed his gratitude to him, saying that Mersad wanted the world premiere of this exhibition in Sarajevo and that the genocide of his people in Srebrenica should never be forgotten.

Deputy Director of the BiH Art Gallery, Ivana Udovičić, expressed hope that all those interested will be able to see the exhibition until November 25.

In this way, the BiH Art Gallery joined marking of the 25th anniversary of Srebrenica genocide.
